Ag Courses

Agricultural education at Maquoketa High School.

Maquoketa High School offers agricultural education, and the FFA chapter grows out of those classes. Students learn in the classroom, in the Maquoketa High School Greenhouse and through hands-on projects, and many join FFA to put what they learn to work. The district lists Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources as one of its career and technical education areas.

The course list

For current course names, grade levels, length and prerequisites, see the district’s Maquoketa High School page or ask the high school counselor for the district course guide. Staff are listed in the district staff directory.

The greenhouse

Students in the horticulture program grow, price, market and sell plants in the high school greenhouse. The fall mum sale and spring plant sale are run from there, and every purchase supports students.

FFA and SAE

Classroom learning connects to FFA through Supervised Agricultural Experiences, the Career Development Events and chapter events. Students meet during GST, and the chapter also runs a Middle School FFA group that meets on Tuesdays during GST.
